Our
Vision
Our
vision is defined most clearly by our Purpose and Mission statements.
What
is the purpose of St. Andrew’s?
We exist to worship God
and be good stewards of
his creation.i
What
is the mission of St. Andrew’s?
Our mission is to transform the world through Christi—
one heart at a time — by bringing all people into membership in
the family of God, welcoming them fully by assimilating them
into the life of the church, discipling them
to follow Jesus and equipping them for
ministry.
Membership,
Assimilation,.Discipleship and Equipment
for Ministry are steps along the path
toward becoming fully mature disciples of Christ — the
path toward becoming what we call M.A.D.E.
in Christ.
Our
Values
One of our mottos is “The church
with the heart of Christ.” Part of what makes us the
“church with the heart of Christ” is a set of commonly
held values that define us as a church. Those values are defined
in a series of six questions from the Baptismal Covenant of the Episcopal
Church.
- We
value daily Bible study, regular attendance at church and participation
in the Eucharist, and daily prayer as essential to our development
as disciples of Jesus Christ.
- We
value a repentant heart as a means of worshipping God. To repent
means to “change your mind” In Romans 12:2 (NRSV)
we read, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what
is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
We want to be known as people who recognize our errors and change
our thinking to be more like Jesus.
- We
value reaching out in love and concern for others so that they
can share the blessings God has given us.
- We
value a servant’s heart. Each of us is called to make
the needs of others a priority in our life. In doing so we
know that God’s blessings are limitless and that he will
provide for us. Servants ask, “What needs to be done?” not
“What should be done?” The bottom line is, Jesus
leads, we follow.
- We
value guarding the unity and harmony of the church as the responsibility
of every member, and charge our members to act in love toward
one another, by refusing to gossip and by supporting our leaders.
We also value responsible citizenship, common courtesy, helpfulness
and support for families.
- We
value the spiritual discipline of tithing, and expect our members
to pledge to financially support the ministry of the church
as God calls them to give.
